Mirror Me

This is how I see myself as today.

Sunday Doodling

Archive Sunday

Years ago I was the graphic designer for a band named Dekker. Their history was rife with disappearing drummers, dealing with dodgy publicans, and the occasional rip off artist/crazy person. On the plus side they had fun trying to write good songs, and I got to begin my experimentations with Photoshop and Illustrator. Above are just examples of my artwork from between 2004 through to 2007 for the band that was Dekker.

To join in with Archive Sunday, simply leave a link below relating to something from your past history, whether it be a photo, art or an old journal entry, or anything else you can think of.

Meme: My Place & Yours

This week's theme for My Place & Yours (Meme courtesy of Meet Me At Mikes; Theme courtesy of Sandra) is ‘The Me Wardrobe’.

In the above photo I am wearing some of my favorite pieces — my Roxy hat, a very old, pilled Miss Shop shirt, plus a lushious purple Roxy jacket. Admittedly my look screams Marty McFly meets Star Trek.

Honestly I'll be devestated when these clothes are no longer wearable. But hopefully that will be a very long way off into the future.

Something For My Arms

I am thinking of designing something that can provide protection to my arms and hands for when doing things like driving in my car. It is summer time and there is only so much protection sunscreen can offer my sensitive skin. So I need a mini jacket that can be worn with anything (even with office attire).

Messy Messy Mess

I have been back at the office this past week, so I am experiencing creative withdrawal. Not the best feeling in the world, so I thought I would do some doodling.

Just Another Boring Note

Not much to say or report this week. I have returned to my full time job, which means my blogging will be a bit infrequent for a while.

Therefore I hereby move Archive Friday and rename it Archive Sunday.

Over and out.

Happy Birthday Vince

Today was my B-I-L's Birthday and I made him this card. In case you can't already tell, he does enjoy a drink, or two, or three.

Archive Friday

1992

Can you believe I still have this piece of paper. I wrote this poem in the early weeks of grade seven (my first year of high school). I liked writing poetry in those days. My poems were small and silly but I remember it being a therapeutic process.

This particular poem was the best of my work from those days. I was inspired by the short story of the Headless Horseman. As ghost stories go this one is still an old favorite.

When my poem was printed out, Dad helped to decorate the piece of paper by carefully burning the edges.

In recollection, a girl at school told me that her father said that the poem was too sophisticated for a kid to write, and believed that I had copied another poem and changed a few words. I remember feeling gutted when I was told this. Eighteen years later in reflection, I still think it is a terrible thing for anyone to say of a child, though… in an awful way it kind of was a compliment.

If you would like to play along with Archive Friday and share something from your past (art, photo, or an old journal entry) then leave a link below…

Fantastic news! I have added another product to my Etsy store. It is a shoulder purse bag and is the perfect thing for girls. It is a freeform knitted design with a soft cushy lined centre, and has the coolest celtic buttons.

My Creative Space...

Over the weekend I actually finished my zine — Hoo-rah! For which there is an actual giveaway. Click here to find out more.

I have since continued some old freeform knitting, which started out as a pillow case, and has now become a bag (see above photo). It isn't finished yet. I am thinking of lining it and including some decorative features.

And now I am thinking, thinking, thinking about future projects.

Check out what other people have been up to at Kootoyoo. I am off now to create some pancakes.

Some Like It Hot… But Then Again, Not

Herein is a response to one of my fave rave bloggers — Loobylu, and her Meme: The Hot & Not List.

Smoking Hot:
  1. I finished making my zine which is available at Etsy and Sticky. I am also hosting a giveaway to celebrate this lil’ book of mine.
  2. Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow — such a wonderful film. I love the genre, lighting and artwork.
  3. No matter what, I have a high regard the illustrative work of Catalina Estrada. Her work is so festive and detailed.

So Not:
  1. Never mind the Nazi Soupman. I have met a Nazi lollypop man who declared I had no right to stop a bus by pressing the button to get a green pedestrian light. WTF!!! The man puts the convenience of drivers first — I think the man needs to reread his job description.
  2. Maternity leave is coming to a close. Back to the office next week. I will miss my Gwennie and having to avoid the stresses of office politics. :(

Great Blinking Flights of Fire

Today I really want to talk to you about a fellow blogger who has being capturing my attention of late. Her name is Bec, and her lovely blog is Blinking Flights.

For those unfamiliar with Bec's work she handcrafts these really cute dolls and to boot — is a wonderful illustrator.

The thing that I like about Bec's style is the innocent, childlike quality. Her dolls are so cheerful and unique, especially as each comes with a swing tag character profile. Guaranteed — no two dolls will ever be the same.

Now, Bec has an online store that you can visit, if you follow this link. So check it out and you will find heaps of wonderful toys that would make an excellent gift for anyone — boy and girl; young and old.

My Creative Space...

This week my creative space has been about Xmas. I have begun making Christmas presents. So far I have crocheted Morris the Panda from Meet Me At Mike's craft book. I also made a lovely bug necklace.

Last week it was my husband's Birthday and I made a ‘to get fat for’ chocolate cake. We have had a slice every night after dinner this past week, and the consequence is that I am consuming more energy than I am actually burning. So now I am going to take it easy on the sugary food… for a week or two. Plus I am fitting in a Carmen Electra DVD, which really makes  you work up a sweat.

And of course there is the zine. The bloody zine! — that sorry saga continues.
